Description

Join the Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) and the Harvard Chan Bioinformatics Core (HBC) for an introductory R workshop. This workshop will provide a basic introduction to R, the open-source platform for statistical computation and graphics, with a focus on the ggplot2 graphical display package.

With hands-on exercises during the morning session, learn how to import and manage datasets, create R objects, install and load R packages, conduct basic statistical analyses, and create common graphical displays. During the afternoon, get an introduction to the popular ggplot2 R graphics package. This package will show you how to create a wide variety of graphical displays in R. Topics covered include aesthetic mapping and scales, faceting, and themes.

No previous experience with R required.


Who should attend?

Harvard Medical School-affiliated researchers from the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center or the Basic and Social Science Departments on the Quad.


Format and Schedule

Introduction to R during the morning and introduction to R graphics with ggplot2 during the afternoon (9am - 5pm, includes a break for lunch* and short breaks in the morning and afternoon).

* Lunch will not be provided, but there are a number of cafeterias and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.


Requirements

Participants must be Harvard Medical School-affiliated researchers from the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center or the Basic and Social Science Departments on the Quad.

No previous experience with R required.
